First off, let me apologize for not blogging for 6 months!!!!!! Ugh!!!! Sometimes life really gets ahead of you!
My husband is finally home safe and sound from Afghanistan, my Son is graduated and off to College, and I am moving to Alabama next month!!!! See, things have been busy!
Well, with Dan arriving home (after being gone a year), he was in the mood to eat out... A LOT!
We've eaten at a lot of restaurants over the past month, but one place really stood out...Red Robin.
I'm usually not a huge fan of Red Robin, as I am a true "Foodie", but boy was I in for a surprise this time.
When we arrived at Red Robing yesterday for a quick lunch, I asked for the GF menu, asked the waitress to alert the manager/chef of mine and my daughter's special dietary needs, and proceeded to order off the menu. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich w/ steamed broccoli on the side ( need to behave, as too many goodies were consumed over the holidays ;-) my daughter ordered the hamburger w/ fries.
***Side note- if you ever order the fries GF at Red Robin, make sure to ask for a dedicated fryer, and they will leave off their signature season salt, not because it contains wheat, but it's manufactured on shared equipment.***
When the waitress asked if we'd like a fresh baked GF bun with our sandwiches, I almost fell out of the booth! OF COURSE, I said! I then proceeded to have a talk with the manager about the GF buns, when they got them, where they come from... she explained they just started carrying them in the past few weeks, and corporate developed the recipe for them. Interesting, and OH HOW ENCOURAGING!!! Our voice is being heard!
When lunch arrived, I had to check 3 times to make sure the buns were GF, you'll understand when you see them. You honestly couldn't tell the difference between the GF bun , and it's wheat-filled counterpart. The best part??? You couldn't TASTE the difference..this is when I got really nervous, and asked yet again if they were sure the buns were GF. They were GF, and we got eat sandwiches just like everyone else in the restaurant.
When the bill arrived I did notice you pay a $1.00 fee for each GF bun you order. I honestly don't mind paying it, especially for such a great product, but you should be aware of this.
To the point...TWO THUMBS UP for Red Robin! Amazing buns and no sore tummies afterward!
Looks like they've made a returning customer out of me...who'da thought?
